Using a single line as a starting point to create infinite variations, I create harmonic compositions rooted in classical Japanese aesthetics and my experience as a performing classical violinist. I create as if composing music; improvising on the spot from an array of colors with my ear inclined to find the right resonances between them. I create as if performing; making pieces in "one go"-a nod to suibokuga (the art of Japanese ink painting) and my experience as a musical performer-knowing I don’t have a second chance to get it right. The way this visual language is organized is underpinned by the Japanese concept of yohaku: “empty” space that is meant to feel infinitely full. These are the areas left untouched in the works, meant to be read and heard as if active rests between notes of music. This kind of serious, joyful expression brings forth and echoes the beauty and excellence of God that I feel and perceive; the outworking of my Christian faith constantly arranging and rearranging itself from poetic instances to expansive symphonies.
